Funk has always been the
constant. What started with
musicians pulled from some of
the Bay Area's best jam bands has
grown into Zenzi, a 10-piece funk
powerhouse based out of St.
Petersburg, Florida, already
earning comparisons to a "Funk
Voltron" and being called St.
Pete's own version of Turkuaz.
Two guitars, bass, drums, auxiliary
percussion, keys, and a horn
section of sax, trumpet, and
trombone anchor the sound,
with three members trading lead
vocals and stacking four-part
harmonies live.
Still early in the story, Zenzi has
wasted no time making its mark,
with back-to-back sold-out nights
at Dunedin Brewery and The
Crowbar, and an appearance at
Whippersnap Music & Arts
Festival. Influenced heavily by old
and new school funk and rock,
Zenzi is building a growing
catalog of originals alongside an
eclectic live set pulling from The
Meters, Tower of Power, Galactic,
David Bowie, Curtis Mayfield,
Aretha Franklin, and more.
A debut studio album is in the
works, targeting an early 2027
release.
